Community Outreach

Community Outreach

The Cybersecurity Center provides numerous outreach events throughout the year that spread cybersecurity awareness and promote cybersecurity careers. The Center, along with volunteers from the Cybersecurity Awareness Squad, a street team within the Cyber Intelligence and Security Organization (CISO) Club, engages in more than 20 annual cyber-related and career-guiding activities in the community, from elementary schools and colleges to local businesses and retirement homes. Since 2015, the Center and the awareness squad served over 21,000 people in our community, with a total of 375 CSUSB students volunteering over 150,000 hours of community outreach.

During the 2018-2019 academic year, the Center and the Cybersecurity Awareness Squad participated in 22 outreach events for CSUSB students and the surrounding community, including events like CSUSB Late Night, OSE Club Fair, StepCon18, California State University Trustee Visit with Jean Firstenberg, Open House, Career Day at Alta Loma High School, and the 2019 Hackers Haunted House. Over 10,500 people participated in our outreach activities, and over 200 students volunteered over 3,300 hours to assist the center during these events.

In addition to our outreach events, we also host multiple recruitment visits, giving representatives from organizations and agencies, like as Booz Allen Hamilton and the National Security Agency (NSA), an opportunity to network and hear from CSUSB students. These events enable us to open our doors to the public by hosting cybersecurity lab tours where participants can learn more about cybersecurity, life at CSUSB, our cyber program, and how to get involved with the Center.
