Students are not admitted to academic programs during Winter Intersession. If you are interested in admission to a degree or credential program at CSUSB, please contact Admissions and Student Recruitment; however, please keep in mind that you can still take courses as visiting student even if you have not been admitted into a degree program.
Yes, disqualified students can enroll in Winter Intersession courses as a visiting student. The grades earned during Winter Intersession may help raise their grade point average.
Most courses published in the class schedule are open to visiting students; however, students must have completed any necessary prerequisites. Please consult the Bulletin of Courses 2026-2027 for more information on prerequisites.

If you are interested in transferring units into a degree program at CSUSB, a maximum of 24 units taken in a non-degree status can be applied toward a bachelor's degree, and 12 units toward a master's degree (subject to approval by the applicable academic department).
If you are a student enrolled in another college or university and you would like to transfer units completed during Winter Intersession at CSUSB back to your home institution, please contact the Registrar's Office at your home institution and follow their process to receive transfer credit. It is recommended that students confirm in advance with their home institution the eligibility to have specific CSUSB course units accepted in transfer to satisfy their home institution's degree requirements. Financial Aid FAQ
Financial aid for winter intersession is coordinated through your spring financial aid package. After spring census, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will include your eligible winter units when reviewing and adjusting spring awards for participating aid programs.
The following programs will consider eligible winter intersession units when determining your spring financial aid eligibility:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
- Federal Direct Loans
- Cal Grant
- Middle Class Scholarship
Including winter units does not guarantee an increased award. Eligibility and award amounts depend on each program’s requirements and your remaining eligibility.
Other financial aid programs may or may not include winter intersession units. Contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for guidance about your specific awards.
No. State University Grant (SUG) is not available to cover winter intersession charges. Winter intersession units also do not count toward the enrollment used to determine your SUG eligibility. Your SUG eligibility will be based on your eligible spring semester enrollment, excluding winter intersession units.
If your anticipated spring financial aid includes sufficient funding that can be applied to winter charges, your aid may cover both winter intersession costs and spring tuition.
When reviewing your available funding, remember that SUG can only apply toward eligible spring tuition charges, not winter intersession charges. Your total anticipated aid alone may not show whether your winter costs will be covered.
If your applicable aid is insufficient, you may need to make payment for the remaining balance by payment due dates.
Winter enrollment may affect your spring aid eligibility for participating programs, but an increase is not guaranteed. Any adjustment depends on your combined eligible enrollment, the requirements of each aid program, and your remaining eligibility. Winter units will not increase your SUG eligibility.
Spring financial aid will be reviewed and adjusted after spring census to include eligible winter intersession units. Do not rely on a possible increase to meet an earlier payment deadline.
Review your anticipated spring aid and your winter and spring charges in myCoyote. If your applicable aid will not cover the combined amount, you may need to make payment by due date to ensure enrollment.
You may. Eligible spring financial aid will be used to cover applicable charges for both winter intersession and spring before any remaining funds are refunded to you. This may leave less money available for books, housing, transportation, and other spring expenses.
Winter intersession coursework will be included in the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) review at the end of the spring term. That review determines whether you are meeting the academic requirements for continued financial aid eligibility.
- Review your spring financial aid and outstanding requirements in myCoyote.
- Consider the combined cost of winter intersession and spring tuition.
- Remember that SUG cannot cover winter charges and winter units do not count toward SUG enrollment eligibility.
- Contact Financial Aid if you need help determining which awards can cover winter costs.
- Arrange payment for any costs your aid will not cover.
- Budget for a potentially reduced spring refund.
