Two thought-provoking art exhibitions, featuring work by fourth- and fifth-grade students from Manuel A. Salinas Creative Arts Elementary School, are set to go on display in May and June in San Bernardino.

The Fifth Annual smARTshow will take place on Friday, May 22, from 5-7 p.m. at the Garcia Center for the Arts, 536 W. 11th St.

Sacred Spaces is scheduled for Friday, June 19, from 5-7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Cathedral, 2525 N. Arrowhead Ave.

Both exhibitions feature pieces that students created from everyday objects to express their thoughts, feelings, hopes, fears and dreams while engaging with real-world issues that matter to them and their communities.

The art programs are a collaboration between Oraib Mango, professor of World Languages and Literatures at CSUSB, and William Beshears, a fourth-grade GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) teacher at Manuel A. Salinas Creative Arts Elementary School.
