IRA Activity Highlights
AI Integration Workshop Series
50+ students served through student employment and workshops.
Workshops began with a two-hour AI workshop with a 30-minute presentation on learning with, from, and about technology in an AI-powered world. design that extended and deepened the core theme. Students were required to design 20-minute presentations on a focused segment that connected AI tools to their own learning and future teaching practice.
Students gained an understanding of how to integrate AI into their learning and instruction, and developed skills in professional presentation and collaboration.
Commencement/Special Events
Student-employee opportunities for student event associates that provide direct, practical experience in event management. Events include campus, student, and community events, such as commencement, concerts, speakers, and front office operations. These positions provide our students with soft skills, such as communication, leadership, and accountability, that they can apply after graduation.
Coyote Radio
Coyote Radio Student Assistants are providing peer-to-peer collaboration with the course students in these practicum class: COMM 2392 Digital Audio Production, COMM 4392 Advanced Coyote Radio Audio Production and SPAN 4402 Spanish for the Professions.
Student Assistants guide teams in creation and production of:
1. Audio recording and editing.
2. Social media content creation.
3. Music programming.
4. On air and podcast hosting.
5. Promotion in tabling and greeting audiences.
6. Live concert/music organization and execution.
There are 60+ course students who study in this fashion with guidance from the Coyote Radio Student Assistants and engaging with 100+ students per week.
The student audio production team also helps to foster and grow the podcast studio for anyone on campus who wants to use our facilities, impacting 100+ students.
Coyote Chronicle
Offers over 100 internships each year to enable students from various disciplines to engage in different aspects of media production, advertising, and outreach.
Students who engage in this IRA activity gain practical experience in reporting, writing, editing, and multimedia storytelling, preparing them for careers in journalism, public relations, and digital media.
Dotphotozine
Students on the editorial team will gain and expand their editorial, organizational, administrative, and leadership skills through designing and creating the next issue of the Dotphotozine magazine. Students from across all Photography/Video courses, the Art and Design Department, and the Graduate Art Programs can currently submit their work to the Open Call for Artwork to be reviewed and considered for inclusion in the next issue of the publication.
Dotphotozine is often one of the first platforms for CSUSB Art and Design students to present and distribute their artwork to a wider audience. Copies of the magazine are often collected and circulated at various art institutions, including the California Museum of Photography at UCR ARTS, The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture, Riverside Art Museum, Garcia Center for the Arts, Getty Museum, and MexiCali Biennial Lab, as well as frequently collected as educational resources by other Photography Programs and Art Departments at various California colleges and universities.
Education Abroad
Provides reduced student costs for CSUSB education abroad programs across eight CSUSB-led AY 25/26 programs offering GE coursework for 100+ student sponsorships.
History in the Making: A Journal of History
History in the Making is an annual publication of the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) Alpha Delta Nu Chapter of the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society, proudly student-reviewed and edited, and sponsored by CSUSB’s History Department.
Infant Toddler Lab School
Direct support toward student success through childcare services, student employment, and high-impact learning opportunities. Funding supported the employment of 10 student workers, with nine returning for the spring semester, ensuring continuity of care and expanded service capacity. During the Fall semester, the center served 18 children of student parents, helping five student parents complete their bachelor’s degrees. Additionally, IRA support for staff allowed us to offer instructional use of the center, including 225 observation room uses and 41 students completing practicum hours and internships directly in our three classrooms, with direct guidance and support from our master teachers.
Liberal Studies
The Liberal Studies Offices and PALS Studio (CE-114) provide an intellectual and mentoring space for 1,000+ students seeking to complete a Liberal Studies or Liberal Arts Program. Open to all students from all majors, various services are provided, including tutoring, free testing supplies, study spaces, computer access, printing, lounge space, and intellectual and culturally enriching events.
Marine Biology and Ichthyology
Impacting 50+ students in getting access to supplies for laboratory activities, which included fish prints and identifications of preserved samples loaned from the Natural History Museum, Los Angeles. Additionally, students visited the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach to see the biodiversity of marine life, especially those found in the Pacific Ocean.
Model UN
- Provides students access to nationally and internationally recognized experiential learning opportunities that enhance student success, retention, and post-graduate outcomes.
- International and national travel that cultivates global awareness, leadership, and civic responsibility.
Music
- Impacts 2,000+ students annually through GE courses and ensembles, which prepare students for a wide spectrum of career paths, including instrumental or vocal performance, music education, stage management, teaching, conducting, music technology, composition, sound engineering, and musicology.
- Hosts 40-50 live performances each year that support on-campus student employment opportunities and campus visibility within the local community.
PAWS Radio & Media Lab
PDC student employment opportunity to provide instructional assistance in audio, video, photography, virtual reality, and campus jazz radio broadcasting. This enabled the Media Lab to remain open Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., ensuring continued student access to instructional resources.
Supported 70+ student course-related and co-curricular media projects, which play a critical role in supporting students’ development of practical technical skills using industry-standard tools and equipment. Students learn to plan, produce, and complete media projects from concept to delivery while solving technical and creative problems.
RAFFMA
Offer six student employee opportunities to support students to gain valuable experience within all aspects of the museum field, including collection, education, exhibitions, administration, customer service, and graphic design/marketing. Several student assistants have taken lead roles in creating educational worksheets for the museum's exhibitions, registrar work, exhibition prep work, and marketing campaigns, providing invaluable real-world experience for their career development.
RecWell/Sport Clubs
-Directly supports the Sport Club Program and Intramural Sports, including campus-recognized, student-run clubs and intramural leagues that provide leadership development, teamwork, and competitive opportunities.
-Advances student employment and peer leadership roles within Sport Clubs, Intramurals, and RecWell operations, offering hands-on experience in program administration, officiating, risk management, and event coordination.
-Helps sustain additional RecWell programs and services, ensuring inclusive recreational opportunities that promote student well-being, campus engagement, and school spirit.
The Pacific Review
Involving 100+ students as participants or project contributors, to support an interdisciplinary event and project to display student literary and artwork. Pacific Review #44 was displayed at the Pfau Library, alongside contributions from international contributors. Students gain recognition and critical experience developing published work, available to the CSUSB community and beyond.
Television Studio & Production Lab
Provide student employment opportunities and direct campus support, including:
- The Yote Film Club, allowing students to participate in several film festivals that resulted in 2 wins for Best Cinematography (Route 66 film festival) & and Best Sound Design (48-hour film festival).
- Produced an interactive video for the Theatre Arts department to enhance the production (You Don’t Even Speak Spanish), an intense production that included both “live” and pre-recorded video.
- Creating various content for classes and helping advertise other student clubs and orgs.
- Produced the Cybersecurity Department to help with the production of interviews to help advertise the department, as well as for other campus partners to help produce and create a series of interviews and social media posts to highlight and spotlight CSUSB faculty.
Theatre Arts
Provides various student employment opportunities to provide real-world and practical experience in stage production (e.g., lighting, sound, set building, prop-making, costume-making, etc.) for all theatrical performances.
Student employees also maintain theatre materials, equipment, and tools, and support performances with execution and control booth management.

The Speaking Center at JHBC
Providing both undergraduate and graduate student employee opportunities to complete 900+ appointments each semester, available for all students, across all majors, to develop and refine their public speaking skills. Services include presentation development and rehearsal, one-to-one consultant feedback, small group presentations, interview rehearsal, and videotaping for providing constructive feedback to students polishing their oral communication skills.
Thesis, Project, and Dissertation Success Programs
Provide essential support to help graduate students stay on track for graduation. Accomplished through the Graduate Writing Accountability Group workshops and the Graduate Writing Center, enhancing their writing skills, fostering academic progress, and increasing thesis and dissertation completion rates.
Yotes Athletics
-Supports 250+ student-athletes in this experiential learning activity to practice skills (e.g., leadership, teamwork, problem-solving) that complement their academic coursework.
-Provides student employment opportunities in support of various academic programs.
-Serves as a pillar of school spirit and campus pride, providing an activity to increase campus engagement, increase institutional visibility, and serve as a highlight for alumni and community partners.
