
Vanessa Ovalle Perez, CSUSB assistant professor of English, will explore the political, social and literary impact of poetry by Latinas in California Spanish-language newspapers during the 19th century on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

The grant from the James Irvine Foundation supports the GIA’s organizational capacity, building and sustainability. The GIA’s mission is to improve the long-term economic outlook of the region through improving educational attainment rates.

To honor Black History Month, Cal State San Bernardino will hold a number of events on campus throughout the month of February to recognize and celebrate the heritage, culture and contributions of African Americans in the United States.

The group, welcomed by university President Tomás Morales on Jan. 30, met with the CSUSB Veterans Success Center, Victor Valley Community College Veteran Services and Los Angeles Mission Community College Veterans Resource Center.

CSUSB’s public history program and English department is among the partners presenting the showcase and celebration of Native American poetry, music and art. The event also includes workshops for youth and college students.

The annual Social Justice Summit, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7, will feature keynote speaker Mónica Ramírez, who helped spark Time’s Up, a movement against sexual harassment in the workplace.
