
The city of Palm Desert has declared March 23rd as “Dr. Avisinia Rodriguez Day” to honor the campus’ assistant dean for her leadership and service to the community.

Business offices at Cal State San Bernardino and its Palm Desert Campus will be closed Friday, March 31, in observance of the state holiday commemorating the birthday of the late labor leader César Chávez.

When it comes to addressing and providing solutions for transportation issues facing Southern California, Kimberly Collins, professor of public administration and executive director of the Leonard Transportation Center, asks, “How does the public work with the private sector to create solutions?"

University of Montana professor Brent Ruby, whose research includes the physical and mental toll fighting wildland fires has on the people who battle these blazes, will present “Mapping the Comprehensive Physical Demands of Wildland Firefighters: A 25+ Year Field Assignment.”

Jewish communal service professor emeritus Steven Windmueller will present “Reflections on a Revolution: Unpacking 21st Century American Judaism” at the 2023 Rabbi Hillel Cohn Lecture Series on the Contemporary Jewish Experience.

Thomas McWeeney (public administration) discussed an upcoming program on school shooter prevention, Brian Levin (criminal justice) commented on an NFL team owner’s campaign against antisemitism, Jess Nerren (communication studies) was interviewed about her research into disability inclusion, and Mark Agars (psychology) was part of a team that published a study on flexible work schedules for shift workers.

Through the network, university President Tomás D. Morales will collaborate with Excelencia to leverage collective expertise and resources, foster partnerships, and amplify current efforts at the national level.

As a member of the WESTOP Board of Directors, Dalia Hernandez will guide the organization’s board and service council in advancing the association’s efforts to fulfill its mission and goals.

Kelly Campbell (psychology) was interviewed for an article about dealing with stress related to personal finances, Kate Liszka and Kasia Szpakowska (history) are featured in a new mini-series on ancient Egypt, Yunfei Hou (computer science and engineering) is helping to organize a data science summer fellowship, and Leslie R. Amodeo and Dionisio A. Amodeo (psychology) led a team of researchers that published a study on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), medications that are commonly used by pregnant women.

The free screening of Shalini Kantayya’s 2020 documentary and the faculty panel that follows will be held from noon to 2:15 p.m. at the university’s Santos Manuel Student Union Theater (SMSU South, Room 107). Attendees can also join via Zoom.

Through her research, Jess Nerren, full-time lecturer of communication studies, hopes to develop inclusive research practices and work with individuals with autism in developing new critical theories and research methodologies.
