Guillermo Escalante, associate dean of student success and enrollment management in the College of Natural Sciences and director of strategic partnerships for CSUSB, has been named president of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, one of the world’s leading professional organizations dedicated to advancing evidence-based research and education in sports nutrition, exercise science and human performance.
Escalante will serve as president for the 2026-28 term, leading the society’s strategic initiatives, educational programming, scientific publications and international collaborations. His election follows two years of service as the organization’s vice president and more than a decade of contributions to sports nutrition research, higher education and professional leadership.
“It is an incredible honor to serve as president of the International Society of Sports Nutrition,” said Escalante. “I look forward to working alongside an exceptional board of directors to continue promoting high-quality research, professional education and global collaboration that ultimately benefits athletes, patients and the broader health and fitness community.”
Founded in 2003, the International Society of Sports Nutrition develops evidence-based position stands and consensus statements that help guide clinical practice, athletic performance and sports nutrition recommendations worldwide. Its official publication, the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition,” is among the field’s highest-impact journals.
In addition to serving as president, Escalante is an associate editor of the “Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition” and co-editor-in-chief of the National Academy of Sports Medicine’s “Journal of Wellness, Health, and Human Performance.” He previously chaired the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Bodybuilding Special Interest Group and has served on the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals.
In his leadership roles at CSUSB, he oversees initiatives focused on student success, enrollment, transfer pathways and workforce development while building partnerships with community colleges, health care organizations, industry leaders and regional stakeholders.
“Serving as ISSN president is not only a tremendous professional honor but also an opportunity to represent CSUSB on a global stage,” Escalante said. “I am proud to be part of a university that values innovation, collaboration and student success, and I look forward to continuing to advance both the field of sports nutrition and the mission of California State University, San Bernardino.”
Before entering academic administration, Escalante spent more than a decade as a professor of kinesiology, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and developing an internationally recognized research portfolio. A frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences, he has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, invited reviews and scientific abstracts focused on sports nutrition, dietary supplements, resistance training, body composition, sports medicine, physique enhancement and athletic performance.
Escalante also co-authored the book “The Golf Performance Code” and contributed a chapter to the textbook “Integrative Sport and Exercise Nutrition.” He regularly consults with athletes, health care professionals, coaches and organizations and serves as an expert witness in legal matters involving dietary supplements, sports nutrition, exercise science and sports medicine.
Complementing his work as an educator and researcher, Escalante has competed nationally in bodybuilding for more than 25 years. In 2026, he won the overall bodybuilding title at the Muscle Beach International Classic and placed first in the Masters 50-plus and Open Middleweight divisions at the West Coast Classic. He also earned top-four finishes at the National Physique Committee Universe Championships and Masters National Bodybuilding Championships.
Escalante earned a doctorate in athletic training from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, a master’s degree in food, nutrition and health from Kansas State University, and an MBA and bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of La Verne.
