Bio
Dr. Guillermo Escalante, DSc, MBA, MS, ATC, CSCS*D, FISSN is an Associate Dean for the College of Natural Sciences and Director of Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). He holds a Doctor of Science in Athletic Training, a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Healthcare Management, a Master of Science in Food, Nutrition, and a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training with a minor in Biology. He is also a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and a certified sports nutritionist/fellow for the International Society of Sports Nutrition (FISSN)
In his role as Associate Dean for the College of Natural Sciences, Dr. Escalante provides leadership in student success, enrollment management, recruitment, retention, transfer initiatives, and academic pathway development. He works closely with academic departments, university leadership, and external partners to develop strategies that support student progression from recruitment and enrollment through graduation and career preparation.
As Director of Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement for the university, Dr. Escalante leads and coordinates efforts to expand strategic partnerships with community colleges, K–12 institutions, community organizations, and other external partners. His work includes developing transfer and 2+2 pathways, strengthening regional educational and workforce pipelines, coordinating institutional partnerships, and creating collaborative initiatives designed to improve access, transfer efficiency, student success, and career readiness.
Dr. Escalante has extensive teaching experience in exercise science, sports nutrition, and kinesiology, including courses in Sports Nutrition, Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries, Principles of Strength and Conditioning, Principles of Human Movement, Exercise Prescription, and Health and Fitness Business Management. His research interests include sports nutrition, sports medicine, resistance training, human performance, and physique enhancement. His work has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at regional, national, and international conferences in sports nutrition, strength and conditioning, athletic training, and exercise science.
In addition to his scholarly work, Dr. Escalante has published more than 50 articles in internationally distributed fitness publications and websites, including Bodybuilding.com, Muscle & Fitness, and Muscle & Fitness Hers. He currently serves as President of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN), Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Fitness, Wellness, and Human Performance, and as a member of the National Academy of Sports Medicine Scientific Advisory Board. He also serves as a peer reviewer for scientific journals in nutrition, exercise science, and human performance.
Dr. Escalante additionally provides consulting and professional services to organizations and individuals in the areas of fitness, sports medicine, exercise science, sports nutrition, human performance, and organizational strategy.
