Aisha Wahab makes history as the first Afghan American elected to Congress

Meredith Conroy (political science), was interviewed for an article about the election to fill the U.S. House seat formerly held by Eric Swalwell. His departure, Conroy said, meant that the barrier inherently created by incumbents – “one of the biggest structural obstacles women candidates face” – was removed, and opened the door for Democrat Aisha Wahab, who won the special election. She and Melissa Hernandez, a Democrat who was also on the ballot for the special election, are running for the full term in November.

Stuart Sumida, (biology), will be one of the paleontologists from across the country who will present at PaleoCon, a fossil-themed event at the Western Science Center, a natural history museum in Hemet. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22.
