Netflix’s hit glassblowing competition show “Blown Away” gets festive this holiday season with a Christmas special, once again featuring Cal State San Bernardino’s art professor Katherine Gray as the resident glass evaluator and CSUSB alumna Nao Yamamoto ’14 as a contestant.

In the four-episode holiday edition, five glassblowers from the previous two seasons are welcomed back to compete in a series of Christmas-themed challenges. The winner receives a $10,000 cash prize, plus an additional $10,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice.

“’Tis the season for redemption,” Gray told the returning competitors during the show.

The challenges had the contestants create their favorite past gifts, holiday foods, ornaments and a winter wonderland.

“A gift, to me, is not always about the material, but also the moments that touches my heart,” Nao said during the gift challenge, who received her Master of Fine Arts from CSUSB in studio art and design.

The Blown Away holiday special is hosted by Bobby Berk, an American interior designer, reality television personality and author, who stars in the Netflix series “Queer Eye.”

“The Christmas episodes were so much fun to film – it was fantastic to have some of the contestants back for another shot at winning, the set was beautiful, and working with Bobby Berk was a blast,” Gray said. “It was joyous all around!”
