Christina Villegas, a Cal State San Bernardino associate professor of political science, has been appointed to the National Executive Council of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Honor Society.

She will serve a four-year term on the executive council.

“I am excited that California State University, San Bernardino will have such a significant presence in such a high-profile national organization,” said Brian Janiskee, professor and chair of the Department of Political Science. “Her leadership of our CSUSB chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha has been outstanding. This is yet another example of the first-rate, high-impact experiences that our faculty provide to our students.”

“I am extremely honored by the invitation to serve on the National Executive Council of Pi Sigma Alpha,” Villegas said. “This appointment will enable me to work with fellow council members to promote academic excellence and civic engagement among our country’s future leaders and to continue to implement and expand networking, professional development, and other learning opportunities for our students here at CSUSB.”

Founded in 1920, Pi Sigma Alpha is the only national honor society for college students of political science and government in the United States. The 12-member National Executive Council is the governing body for the honor society that has more than 800 chapters and approximately 300,000 members from college and university campuses in every state of the United States and one in Canada.

CSUSB’s Theta Iota Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, as of August 2019, has received seven consecutive National Best Chapter Awards – Villegas was the faculty advisor when the last three were awarded – and a total of 11 awards overall. The honor recognizes local chapters that are particularly active in their departments and universities and exhibit high levels of energy and creativity in furthering the goals of the honor society. Villegas will continue as the CSUSB chapter’s faculty advisor.
