Cal State San Bernardino graduate student Haylie Roché will be featured in an exhibition titled “Honeymoon” in the university’s Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art’s Dutton Family Gallery, on display from Feb. 27 through March 4.

This will be her thesis exhibition, a requirement at CSUSB for those graduating with a Master in Fine Arts. An opening reception will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

Honeymoon is an exploration of the nature of consumption and how it is romanticized in modern society. The exhibition attempts to find the line between celebration and escapism, and questions if the two aren’t one and the same. Honeymoon celebrates the excess and invites the viewer to bathe in the aftermath of shameless hedonism.

Roché creates collages with paint, found objects, and scrap materials in order to explore the rituals and artifacts associated with consumer culture. She received her Bachelor of Arts from California State University, San Bernardino in 2017 and was a Sam and Beverly Maloof Scholarship recipient in 2019.

Roché currently has work on view as a part of the SoCAL MFA exhibition in Pomona. Her work can also be found at www.haylieroche.com or on Instagram @haylierocheart.
