Lety Herrera, a Cal State San Bernardino sociology major and DREAMer, attended the State of the Union address in Washington, D.C., earlier this year, the guest of U.S. Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-Redlands. She shares what it was like to be there, as well as her story and what it means to be a CSUSB Coyote.

Herrera, who is a junior and has a DACA permit valid until 2019, has lived in the United States since the age of eight, when she was brought to the country from Oaxaca, Mexico. She is active in various university clubs and groups that work with undocumented students and people in the community.

“If I could describe CSUSB in some words, it would be supportive. They care about their students, regardless of their background, race and religious beliefs,” she said. “I am thankful for all the support CSUSB has given me.”
