2/4 -  OBSS presents CSUSB Black Student History (Open House) 

The Office of Black Student Success hosts it 2nd Annual open house! This year our OBSS student assistants will be presenting CSUSB Black History from the 1990s to the 2010s!

2/7- Black History Parade in San Bernardino 

The parade, a cherished tradition since 1968, will march through the heart of Westside San Bernardino, inspiring the community with its lively energy and cultural importance. The parade features marching bands, cheerleading squads, classic cars, elected officials, Spots stars, stars of film and TV, and more. The parade is on Baseline Ave. and Mt. Vernon to California Street.

2/11 - Jasmine Graham, the Shark Doctor

You’re invited to a fascinating lunchtime book talk featuring marine biologist Jasmin Graham, author of Sharks Don’t Sink: Adventures of a Rogue Shark Scientist.

Join us for this special event in the Gerald M. Scherba Lecture Series, presented by the College of Natural Sciences and co-sponsored by CSUSB Libraries, the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and the Office of Black Student Success. 

The program will take place on Wednesday, February 11, noon to 1 p.m. in room SB-128.

Jasmin Graham is a leading voice in shark science, specializing in smalltooth sawfish and hammerhead sharks. She is the co-founder of Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS) and the host of the PBS series, Sharks Unknown with Jasmin Graham.  In this engaging book talk, she will share stories from her career, her research, and her journey as a scientist working to change who gets to study—and protect—our oceans.

The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Joseph Heras, Associate Professor of Biology in the College of Natural Sciences at CSUSB.

This event is free and open to the public and includes a Q&A session.

Book giveaway (limited supplies) and book signing begin at 11:00 a.m. on the first floor of the Pfau Library, near the presidential portraits. 

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet an inspiring scientist and learn more about sharks, science, and advocacy in action.

2/12- Radical Book Club: Latinx Center with Afro-Latino writers highlighted

Join the LatinX Center as we read "When Language Broke Open: An Anthology of Queer and Trans Black Writers of Latin American Descent" to celebrate Black History Month and highlight the rich experiences of Black Latinidades.

2/18-  Ethnic Studies and 100 Years of Black History Month
The Office of Black Student Success (OBSS), in collaboration with the Department of Ethnic Studies at CSUSB, as well as the Outreach Department are excited , which brings together CSUSB and local community colleges to celebrate 100 years of Black history and also to encourage students to continue studying at CSUSB. The objectives of the event:
  • Celebrate 100 year anniversary of Negro History week and educate students, faculty, and staff about the importance of Black History Month
  • Promote awareness of Ethnic Studies as a viable course of study and retention tool, that grounds students in their cultural understanding of belonging at the university and in society
  • Encourage students to pursue a strong path of scholarship that is informed by the principles of Umoja (unity), sustainable educational environments, and uplifting places of joy.
  • Recruit community college students to CSUSB. 
  • Food is provided!

2/21- Natural Hair Day, OBSS, Recruitment, and SBCUSD

The 4th Annual SBCUSD Natural Hair Day Experience!  This event promises an exciting lineup, including a live performance, a hair show, delicious food, and plenty of surprises. The first 100 guests will have the chance to enter a raffle and win exclusive prizes. There will also be an art contest. We will also honor the rich history of natural hairstyles worn by African American women of color. In addition, we are seeking vendors offering products related to the theme of natural beauty. If you’re interested in joining us as a guest, runway model, or vendor, please contact us and register.

2/25-  Wellness Wednesday: Quarter Zip Day (Professionalism, collab with Career Center)
National Public Radio stated, "What does the humble, boring quarter-zip sweater have to do with respectability politics and Blackness? Apparently, a lot! When two young Black men on TikTok brought the quarter-zip into vogue for young folks, they unknowingly waded into some very long-lived discourse on Black fashion and looking 'respectable.'"
CSUSB will offer an eye-opening discussion about professionalism, perception, respect, politics, safety, and mental health for Black young adults, especially young men.

2/26-  The Voice by Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration Office of Academic Equity – Issues with Black Men (Invitation Only)

We would like to extend a special invitation for the annual event, The Voice, hosted by the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration’s (JHBC) Office of Academic Equity (OAE). This event will take place on February 22nd, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. This year's theme, "I’m Graduating! What’s Next?" is centered around empowering young African American men as they transition into their post-graduation phase.

2/27-  Pioneer Breakfast (BFSSA) 
In celebration of Black History Month, the Black Faculty, Staff, and Student Association (BFSSA) at California State University, San Bernardino is proud to invite you to the 13th Annual Pioneer Breakfast on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
This year’s theme, “Honoring the Journey: From Liberation to Leadership,” highlights the rich legacy, resilience, and leadership of the Black community while honoring those who have paved the way and continue to inspire future generations.
The breakfast will be held at the Santos Manuel Student Union North Conference Center. Tickets are now available for faculty, staff, and community members. All proceeds from the event directly support scholarships for CSUSB students, reinforcing our shared commitment to student success and equity.
