Interim AVP's Message

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to Faculty Development, located with the Teaching Resource Center and the Faculty Mentoring Network in the shared space of PL-4005, the Faculty Center for Excellence. Here you will explore how we can collaborate to promote the career-long development of faculty. We seek to encourage excellent faculty across all disciplines. We achieve this objective by providing coherent and comprehensive support for faculty to achieve their personal and professional goals.

The central focus of Faculty Development is to promote innovative research-scholarly activities, teaching pedagogies, and service, together with the effective integration of technology in the classrooms through collaboration with ITS/Academic Technologies & Innovation. In addition, we hope to improve our faculty experiences by fostering creativity, learning, inquiry, and exploration.

Our Faculty Development team, made up of Faculty Research Fellow Dr. Monty van Wart, Faculty Mentoring Network Director Dr. Josephine Mendoza, Faculty DEI Fellow Dr. Jane Chin Davidson, and me, strive to see that our faculty are supported by coordinating and disseminating information about grants, workshops, and other opportunities. We offer the opportunities for continuous improvements by promoting a smooth transition of supportive onboarding consultations for tenure-track probationary faculty and strategies for all faculty to enhance their research skills.

We are keen to ensure that the faculty’s accomplishments and successes are recognized, supported, and celebrated; and I invite you to explore the opportunities and support available on the Faculty Development webpage.

Thank you,

Bradford Owen, PhD

Interim AVP for Faculty Development and Chief Academic Technologies Officer
