Instruction and Learning Mode Guide

Face-to-face instruction. Standard instruction with face-to-face meetings at designated days and times.

• APDB Learning Mode value = 09
• Requires a classroom assigned.
• Requires a meeting pattern, both days and times.
• Space type is either 1 (Lecture), 2 (Laboratory), or 3 (Non-Capacity).
• Supervision courses, unless specifically designated otherwise, are coded as P, but do not require a classroom nor meeting pattern.

Online instruction delivered through Canvas. Considered 100% online; generally, no campus meetings are required. If campus meetings are required (i.e., orientation, mid-term/final exam, or a performance attendance) the exemption attribute must be selected, and exemption form completed.

• Cannot have a meeting pattern.
• Space type is 3 (Non-Capacity).
• Requires the attribute Fully Online: AB386, Course Match, or Exemption

Online instruction delivered through Zoom or Teams. Considered 100% online; generally, no campus meetings are required. Students are required to participate online in a designated online classroom (a.k.a. Zoom or Teams) on a specific days and times. If campus meetings are required (i.e., orientation, mid-term/final exam, or a performance attendance) the exemption attribute must be selected, and exemption form completed.

• Cannot have a meeting pattern.
• Space type is 3 (Non-Capacity).
• Requires the attribute Fully Online: AB386, Course Match, or Exemption.

Combines two online instruction modes. Considered 100% online; generally, no campus meetings are required. Students are required to participate online in a designated online classroom (a.k.a. Zoom or Teams) on a specific day and time in addition to asynchronous (Canvas) online instruction. If campus meetings are required (i.e., orientation, mid-term/final exam, or a performance attendance) the exemption attribute must be selected, and exemption form completed.

• Requires a classroom assigned for the classroom portion, no classroom for the online potion.
• Requires a meeting pattern (both day and time) for the classroom portion, no meeting pattern for the online portion.
• Space type is either 1 (Lecture), 2 (Laboratory), or 3 (Non-Capacity) for both modes.
• Do not assign a faculty assigned to the second mode (will double count units in the faculty's contract).
• Requires the attribute Fully Online: AB386, Course Match, or Exemption.

• Space type is either 1 (Lecture), 2 (Laboratory), or 3 (Non-Capacity) for both modes
• Do not assign a faculty assigned to the second mode (will double count units in the faculty's contract).

• Space type is either 1 (Lecture/Seminar), 2 (Laboratory/Activity), or 4 (Multi-mode).

Zero-unit instruction is for sections that do not carry any unit value. Examples might be preparing for a comp exam or working on a project/thesis.

• Cannot have a meeting pattern; meetings if needed are communicated by the chair/coordinator.
• Space type is 3 (Non-capacity).
