As a first-gen student, single mother and campus leader, Jennifer Cornejo’s journey at CSUSB is powered not only by her own determination, but by the sacrifices, encouragement and resilience of the family who believes in her and supports her every step of the way. “She never gave up,” said her father, Carlos Cornejo. “And I hope that becomes an inspiration for other young people – that everything is possible.”
What began as a classroom commercialization project at CSUSB has evolved into a growing startup gaining national recognition. MSEI students Raymond Moorehead Jr. and Jacob Estrada are advancing BluCore Minerals’ technology to extract lithium and other valuable minerals from wastewater streams while securing funding, accelerator opportunities and industry connections.

Cal State San Bernardino’s College of Arts and Letters has named Alexander Valdez Jr., Kenia Castaneda, Annabelle Su and Filimon Fregoso as its 2025-26 Outstanding Students. The honorees will be celebrated during the college’s Commencement ceremony at 9 a.m. May 16 at Toyota Arena.

The CREATE Academy initiative will launch in summer 2026 with hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) programming, pre-college experiences and industry-connected training designed to prepare students for careers in emerging technologies and the future workforce.
After transferring to Cal State San Bernardino through Instant Admit Day, computer science senior Ryan Stairs gained the confidence to pursue his goals and make the most of his college experience. Through hands-on work in the Digital Transformation office and contributing to the “Join the Pack” website, he’s building the skills and connections needed to launch a future in game development.
The Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration honored its top students on May 5, celebrating academic achievement and the journeys behind each success. The ceremony highlighted the role of mentorship, community and perseverance in shaping student excellence at CSUSB.
Students in the program are completing two university-level courses taught by CSUSB faculty, Alexandra Cavallaro and Julie Taylor, using the Inside-Out model of prison education. It will be a significant step forward in expanding access to higher education for system-impacted youth ages 18-23.
