A product of the Cal State University system, Chris Freeland has over 30 years of government experience, including 25 years at the municipal level and 7 years working with the United States House of Representatives.
He currently serves as the City Manager for the City of Indian Wells, a position he has held since 2019.
Chris’ career journey in local government management began in 2001 as a Management Analyst II in the West Covina City Manager’s Office. Over the next 18 years, he progressed through various roles in West Covina, including Assistant to the City Manager, Deputy City Manager, Community Services Director, Human Resources Director, Community Development Director, Assistant City Manager, and ultimately City Manager.
Chris' extensive experience and dedication to public service have made him a respected figure in the local government profession. Chris is active in several local government organizations. He is the current President-Elect of the League of California Cities’ City Managers Department, is a Credentialed Manager of the International City/County Management Association, and a member of the American Society for Public Administration. Chris is also a Past President of the Municipal Management Association of Southern California and a former member of the California City Managers Foundation Board of Directors.
He and his wife Amy live in La Quinta. Chris is an avid University of Notre Dame football and Los Angeles Dodgers fan. An interesting tidbit about Chris is that he has visited every Major League Baseball stadium.
