The Department of Geological Sciences at California State University, San Bernardino is marking 35 years of research, education and community engagement with an anniversary celebration next month.
Founded by Britt Leatham, the department has grown into a hub for geologic research and field-based training, preparing generations of Earth scientists for careers across the region and beyond.
The 35th anniversary event is scheduled for Thursday, April 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the university’s Obershaw Dining Room in the Alumni Center. Alumni, students, faculty and community partners are invited to attend.
RSVP online at CSUSB Geology 35th Anniversary by Friday, March 27, or contact department chair Claire Todd at Claire.Todd@csusb.edu.
The program will feature student-faculty research presentations, reflections from alumni and students, and recognition of retiring faculty members Kerry Cato and Sally McGill. Also, as part of the celebration, the department will honor Austin Marshall, a 2007 graduate and president of Mitsubishi Cement Corp., as its Outstanding Alumni.
Over the past three and a half decades, the department has built a reputation for hands-on learning and applied research. Graduates have gone on to careers with state and regional water boards, environmental and geotechnical firms, and natural resource companies.
