CSUSB Model United Nations (CSUSB-MUN)
Build Skills. Broaden Perspectives. Make a Difference.
Want to sharpen your critical thinking, network globally, and boost your resume while tackling real-world issues? Join the Model United Nations Program at CSUSB and step into the shoes of global leaders! The CSUSB-MUN program educates students about international issues, the United Nations and its affiliated organizations, and how the global community addresses challenges.
This program offers personal growth opportunities, including public speaking, conflict resolution, and diplomatic writing, as well as the chance to make unforgettable connections and lifelong friendships, experience unique places, and have a life-changing experience. The alumni of this program have gone on to success as leaders in various fields, including graduate programs, law schools, diplomatic and foreign services, law enforcement, national security, academia, and Fortune 500 companies.
Academically, this program teaches students about international issues, the numerous and incredible ways the United Nations works to address those issues, and how the global community is responding to the challenges of the next decade, century, and millennia. We do this by assuming the role of diplomats representing one or more countries. The team chooses a country to represent each year at one of the National Model UN (NMUN.org) conferences. The assigned countries have specific policies and hold specific positions in the United Nations system. Students learn about those positions and how to think, behave, and speak like a diplomat.
The work is divided into two categories: inside-class and outside-class work.
- Inside-class work includes practicing the conference's working sessions, learning the rules of procedure, and practicing public speaking.
- Outside classwork includes high-level scientific and diplomatic research, as well as writing policy documents.
