RAFFMA reopens for spring semester featuring two new exhibits: “SEAMS: Work by Francis Almendárez” and the student-curated exhibit, “Unfinished: Drawings From Our Collection.” A public reception celebrating the two new exhibitions will take place on Feb. 24 from 1-4 p.m.

Richard “Cheech” Marin was awarded the President’s Medal for his accomplishments as an actor, author of children’s books and a preeminent collector of Chicano art and the recently opened Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Culture.

Registration for LEAD XI, “Movimiento y Compromiso: 50 Years of Challenges, Possibilities, and the Quest for Educational Equity,” set for Sept. 30 at CSUSB’s Santos Manuel Student Union North, can now be done online. The summit is open to the public and registration is free.

The LEAD Summit XI and its related events have been postponed to September and will become part of the CSUSB Hispanic Heritage Month series of events.

The nine events of LEAD 2020 are expected to welcome more than 3,500 attendees (in-person) to the CSUSB campus, with thousands more online via Town Hall viewing sites around the world.

Cheech Marin, the honorary chair/padrino de honor, is the morning featured speaker, and Rosalío Muñoz, chiefly remembered as the co-chair of the Chicano Moratorium Committee, will speak in the afternoon. The summit will take place on March 26.

“Visual Frequency,” a new exhibit coming Feb. 3 to RAFFMA, features art from CSUSB students who worked closely with renowned painter Armando Lerma. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 6-8 p.m.

The theme for the 11th annual summit is “Movimiento y Compromiso: 50 Years of Challenges, Possibilities, and the Quest for Educational Equity.” The summit is set for March 26, and online registration is now open.
