Blaming social media for an uptick in the number of mountain rescues is not entirely fair. The use of the technology is likely a reflection of a person’s personality rather than a cause of his behavior, said Ahlam Muhtaseb, communication studies.
The 12th annual Latin American Studies Conference: Study of the Americas at CSUSB explored a variety of issues ranging from democracy, immigration, culture to identity concerning Latinos and indigenous peoples in the U.S.
The conference, “U.S. Hegemony and the Arab World,” commemorated the 40th anniversary of Arab Studies Quarterly, centered on the theme, “U.S. Hegemony and the Arab World.”
An information session, led by Grant Minagawa from Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles, will be held Wednesday, April 25, from 2-3 p.m. in the John M. Pfau Library, PL-0013.
The event, “What’s Next? Using My Communication Studies Degree” will feature panelists, expert speakers, an awards banquet and resources for professional and academic careers in the field of communication studies.
“Building the Marital Bond in Qing Dynasty China (1644-1911)” will be presented by Weijing Lu, an associate professor from UC San Diego, at noon May 17, John M. Pfau Library, PL-4005.
In addition, the CSUSB Jazz Band and Jazz Combo, along with the vocalists, each received superior ratings at the festival’s competition.
News of Kathleen Devlin (College of Natural Sciences) named 2017-18 Outstanding Lecturer, Karen Rowan (English) interviewed about “stretch classes” helping students with their writing, Brian Levin (criminal justice) on problems at the FBI.
This presentation, set for 2 p.m. at RAFFMA, is part of the Art and Restorative Justice Panel series that was created for the exhibition, “Beyond the Blue: Prison Arts Collective.”
