
The Peace Garden, built in front of the Chemical Sciences building in honor of the 14 lives lost on Dec. 2, 2015, was the site of the university’s annual Day of Remembrance. Five of the 14 were CSUSB alumni.

The National Science Foundation awarded the grant to the university’s School of Computer Science and Engineering, which will use it to provide scholarships, mentorships and experiential learning opportunities for low-income and underrepresented students, and to meet a growing need for talented computer professionals in the region.

Sastry Pantula was nominated for demonstrating inclusivity, integrity, respect, social justice and equity. He invites speakers to talk about inclusivity, diversity and equity, and emphasizes these values with search committee members in regard to hiring staff and faculty.

The CSUSB School of Computer Science and Engineering and its military partners offer learning and job opportunities for STEM majors. A scheduled visit to Edwards Air Force Base is set for May 31 for ROTC students and STEM majors in partnership with the university’s Air Force ROTC.

The Celebration of Teaching, with the theme “The Future of Education Is in Your Hands,” is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in the Center for Global Innovation at Cal State San Bernardino.

The dessert-themed event at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 6, is geared to publicly recognize both the academic achievements of the college’s 2022-23 scholarship recipients and the donors who invest in their education.

Jeremy Murray (history) is the recipient of CSUSB’s Outstanding Service Award, Claire Todd (geological sciences) described the conditions for avalanches in the local mountains, and Deidre Lanesskog (social work) cowrote an article on qualitative inquiry.

“His willingness to engage in activities that share knowledge within the community seems endless,” the nominating committee said.

Stuart Sumida is the 2022-23 recipient of the university’s Golden Apple Award, which recognizes outstanding faculty who excel in the profession of teaching and have a significant impact on students with whom they interact.
