The Office of Student Research and Innovation hosted the 12th annual Undergraduate Summer Research Program (USRP) Mini-Conference at CSUSB’s James R. Watson and Judy Rodriguez Watson College of Education.
USRP is a 10-week summer program that provides funding, mentorship and resources to undergraduate students pursuing research projects or scholarly activities related to their fields of study. Beginning in June, participants conduct research, collaborate with their faculty mentors and attend workshops designed to prepare them for graduate study and research careers.
The program culminates in the Mini-Conference, where students share their research through oral presentations and serve as discussants for fellow research teams. This year’s conference showcased the work of 57 undergraduate students representing 22 faculty-student research teams across CSUSB’s five academic colleges. The conference, held on Aug. 13, also welcomed 160 incoming first-year and transfer students participating in CSUSB’s Coyote Jumpstart program, giving them an early look at undergraduate research, faculty mentorship and high-impact learning opportunities available at Cal State San Bernardino.
Following the conference, attendees and presenters gathered for a Networking Bowling Social at Coyote Lanes in the Santos Manuel Student Union North. The event offered students an opportunity to connect with faculty and peers, build relationships and strengthen their sense of belonging within the campus community.
Together, the conference and networking event supported CSUSB’s strategic goals for student success by promoting high-impact learning, faculty mentorship, cross-campus collaboration, and community.
The program was supported through collaborations with the Office of the Provost, the American Heart Association and Proactive Approaches for Training Hispanics in STEM. Faculty mentors and student volunteers also contributed to the event’s success, helping welcome a total of 263 attendees.
