Equity, purpose, integrity — these three values inspired Dr. Carmen Beck, Association of California School Administrators' 2026 Professor of Education of the Year, to build a career preparing education leaders to serve students and communities to the best of their abilities. Beck is an assistant professor at California State University, San Bernardino’s Educational Leadership and Technology Department, and she also serves as the assistant director of the Doctorate in Educational Leadership program.

Mystery bidder buys T. rex nicknamed 'Gus' for a record $50 million

After a T. rex fossil sold for $50.1 million, Stuart Sumida, president of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology and CSUSB professor of biology, said, "The auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's are complicit in removing data from the scientific process. And [they are] complicit [in] placing scientifically valuable specimens into the cabinets of curiosity of a few wealthy individuals and away from the eyes of children and adults alike for years to come."
To date, no scientific work has been formally conducted or published on Gus. Sumida says this is because no reputable journal would accept a study based on a privately owned specimen as it may be unavailable for future review. "Proper science cannot be done with purchased private specimens," he says.
