The Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art (RAFFMA) at Cal State San Bernardino is more than a museum — it’s a launchpad for future leaders in the arts, culture and education. By combining its world-class collections with real-world opportunities, RAFFMA is helping students define their futures and make an impact far beyond campus.

Nationally accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, RAFFMA is home to one of the most significant collections of ancient Egyptian art in Southern California, alongside ceramics and contemporary works. Each year, the museum hosts 10-12 temporary exhibitions, creating an ever-changing environment for learning and discovery. Now, that cultural foundation is shaping transformative educational experiences that give students hands-on skills and confidence to thrive in their chosen fields.

At RAFFMA, learning goes beyond the classroom:

  • Egyptology students work alongside experts to study and preserve artifacts from the museum’s Egyptian collection.
  • Art history and museum studies students contribute to curatorial research and exhibition development.
  • Graphic design and marketing students create promotional campaigns that connect diverse communities to the arts.
  • Photography and videography students document exhibitions and events, strengthening both technical skills and creative vision.
  • Education majors design programs for K-12 school groups and community events, learning how to make art accessible for all.

Through these experiences, students see the full cycle of museum work — from research to installation to public engagement — while gaining professional skills that prepare them for success after graduation.

RAFFMA also plays a vital role in the region, serving thousands of visitors annually through cultural programming, corporate events, and networking opportunities. Its volunteer docent program is another cornerstone of impact, training community members to serve as guides and educators who enrich the visitor experience while developing their own expertise in art and history.

By opening its doors to students and the community, RAFFMA demonstrates how Cal State San Bernardino lives its mission: providing affordable excellence, preparing graduates who are life and career ready, and creating meaningful human impact across the Inland Empire and beyond.

Students interested in internships or volunteer opportunities can explore current openings on RAFFMA’s website and social media. Faculty are also encouraged to reach out for collaborative programming. For more information, email raffma@csusb.edu
