A group of students enrolled in the university’s master’s in human resources program prepared a human resources handbook for an area business.

The handbook, developed by students in the HRM 5580 class, California Human Resources, was presented to the owners of Portals Entertainment Group by Tomás Gómez-Arias, dean of Cal State San Bernardino’s Jack H. Brown College of Business & Public Administration on Nov. 28.

HRM 5580, taught by Patricia Steet, is the first such course to focus on California specific labor and employment regulations.

The handbook was a class project that gave the students the opportunity to put what they have learned into practice by designing and writing a company specific handbook for a small up-and-coming business in the Inland Empire. Students learned to communicate, respond and work collaboratively with their peers and the business owners to write a legally defensible employee handbook.
