The graduate and undergraduate online programs offered by the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Cal State San Bernardino continue to be recognized nationally.

The online bachelor of arts in criminal justice, offered through the College of Extended and Global Education, was ranked No. 11 in the nation by UniversityHQ for 2022. The only other California State University program ranked ahead of CSUSB was San Diego State at No. 1. UniversityHQ considered factors that include the cost of tuition, admission rate, retention rate, graduation rate (four year and six year), graduating salary (return on investment), percentage of students receiving financial aid, and reputation and expert opinion.

The criminal justice online master’s program was ranked 32nd best in the nation by OnlineMastersDegrees.org for 2022. It was the only CSU campus on the list; the University of New Haven in Connecticut was ranked. No. 1. The ranking service analyzed more than 7,700 schools using data from the U.S. Department of Education. According to its website, its data science team then created an algorithm to rank these schools in 70 unique master’s degree subjects. To qualify, a school must hold active regional accreditation and have both academic counseling and career placement services available to students. Primary ranking factors included availability of programs with an online component, number of programs in subject area, and metrics considering cost as well as the impact of institutional aid.

“Our online criminal justice BA and online criminal justice MA programs are consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation,” said Andrea Schoepfer, director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. “This latest recognition by these two ranking services point to our exceptional faculty, our dedicated students, and the resources and support provided by CSUSB.”

The latest rankings add to the national recognition the school has already received, including No. 34 on the prestigious U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Master’s in Criminal Justice Programs for 2022.
