Cal State San Bernardino has named veteran business and marketing educator and administrator Tomás Gómez-Arias to lead the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration.

Gómez-Arias will begin as the JHBC’s new dean on July 1 and will hold an academic appointment as tenured full professor in the CSUSB Department of Marketing. He currently serves as the dean of the College of Business Administration at California State University, Stanislaus.

He will take over for interim dean and professor Shanthi Srinivas, who has been leading the college since August 2021, having come to the campus from Cal Poly Pomona, where she held a number of administrative and faculty positions.

“Dr. Gómez-Arias brings a wealth of experience both in the academic world and the public sector that I’m confident will be an asset to our outstanding CSUSB team and help inspire our students,” said Shari McMahan, provost and vice president of CSUSB Academic Affairs. “We look forward to working with him in his efforts to further enhance the reputation and academic excellence of the college.”

Gómez-Arias brings nearly two decades of experience in higher education as an educator and administrator.

At Stanislaus State, Gómez-Arias successfully led the college to AACSB reaccreditation; significantly increased four-year and two-year graduation rates in the college while reducing achievement gaps for URM and Pell students; secured philanthropic funding for “Champions of the American Dream,” an event honoring regional entrepreneurs, and the Warrior Entrepreneurship Initiative; grew MBA enrollments by 70%; and partnered with several organizations to launch a Latino Leadership Initiative.  

Prior to Stanislaus, he served at Saint Mary’s College of California and held leadership positions that included chief diversity officer, associate dean for faculty and research, chair of the marketing department and director of the MS in business analytics.

His teaching interests include marketing research, marketing strategy, international business, international marketing, export management and great books. His research interests include competitive strategy, business-to-business marketing, retail management and brand equity.

Gómez-Arias also has experience in the public sector as chief trade officer at the Consulate General of Spain in Hong Kong and in the private sector as a founder of IVVID Consulting. He holds a Ph.D. and a licenciatura in business science from the University of Leon, Spain, and an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
