Academics from throughout Latin America and other parts of the world will gather for the 52nd annual Latin American Commission for Administration Schools, known by its acronym in Spanish, CLADEA.

The event, cohosted by Cal State San Bernardino, will be held in Riverside Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 17-19.

“Breaking the Mold: Anticipating the Challenges of Local Education” is the theme of this year’s conference, which will be held at the Mission Inn and Riverside Convention Center in Riverside. This marks the first time the international educational event will be held in Southern California, and only the fourth time it has been held in the continental United States.

The conference is being jointly hosted by CLADEA and its association member, the CSUSB Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration. The university partnered with CLADEA in March 2016 to host a workshop at the CSUSB campus on global education, said Kimberly Collins, an associate professor of public administration, director of the Leonard Transportation Center and the CSUSB chair of the CLADEA conference.

The CLADEA 2017 Annual Assembly is an opportunity for experts and educational leaders from around the world to meet in a common forum and discuss issues of globalization, world trade, the role of higher education, and the roles of government, academia, business and civil society in this time of constant changes and technological advances, Collins said.

“Latin America, in particular, will play an important role in the future orientation of world trade and development in the Americas,” she said. “How this scenario fits will depend on our ability to collaborate better between societies. Leaders and specialists in higher education are an important part of this work as they provide the data and analysis that decision makers need to train the next generation of leaders and work to strengthen the representation of civil society.

“This event will be the stage for us to learn from each other and find new ways to collaborate,” Collins added. “Only through a proactive perspective and working together will we all benefit.”
