Bio

Carolina Gabaldon is a Public Health professional dedicated to motivating students to succeed in health science careers.  Carolina has worked in the non-profit sector for over 4 years to prevent substance misuse in San Bernardino County. Her role as Prevention Specialist with Institute for Public Strategies gave her valuable experience of creating tobacco and cannabis prevention programs, serving as a San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorder and Recovery Services Data Workgroups Co-Chair, developing youth advocacy programs that promote positive youth health behaviors, and much more. She is a 5-year member of the High Desert Community Coalition, working actively to create community change and build capacity through community organizing, community assessments, fostering civic engagement, providing expert knowledge to city leaders, and effecting policy change. Carolina is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Public Health with a specialization in epidemiology at Walden University. 

Education

Carolina Gabaldon graduated with her Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Science in 2016 and her Master in Public Health degree in 2018, both earned from CSUSB. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Public Health with a specialization in epidemiology at Walden University.

Research and Teaching Interests

Carolina's research focus is to improve maternal and child health outcomes by preventing substance misuse disorders. Her goals are to improve prenatal substance disorder treatment access, reduce stigmatization, effect punitive policy change, and reduce the negative consequences of prenatal exposure to alcohol and other drugs.
