Bio

Benjamin J. Virzi is an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), where he has served for over a decade. He holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a Biochemistry option and has accumulated more than 13 years of experience in the field of environmental health and safety.

In his role at CSUSB, Virzi oversees a wide array of safety and compliance programs, including accident investigation, biosafety, hazardous waste disposal, laser safety, indoor air quality, food safety, and respiratory protection. He is also responsible for authoring and maintaining key safety documentation, such as the university's Hazard Communication Program.

Beyond his technical responsibilities, Virzi is actively involved in labor representation and advocacy. He serves as President and Chief Steward of the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) Chapter at CSUSB, where he plays a pivotal role in representing staff interests and negotiating workplace conditions.

His combined expertise in chemical safety, regulatory compliance, and labor leadership positions him as a key figure in maintaining and advocating for a safe and equitable working environment at CSUSB.

Outside of work, Benjamin leads a well-rounded and fulfilling life. He enjoys spending time with his two dogs and cat, working on cars, and exploring California’s natural landscapes. Whether hiking, wrenching in the garage, cooking, or reading up on the latest developments in science and safety, Benjamin values balance and continuous learning. His strong sense of responsibility and care for others extends well beyond the workplace, shaping his contributions both professionally and personally.
