In addition to three new exhibits, Community Day, to be held Aug. 26, will feature a variety of activities that are family-friendly and relevant to people of all ages, such as print making demonstrations, arts and crafts, prizes, refreshments and more.

The annual celebration, sponsored by the university’s Association of Latino Faculty, Staff and Students, will take place at the Santos Manuel Student Union East Amphitheatre and will feature musical entertainment, food and other activities.

President Tomás D. Morales donated a beaded calavera (skull), made by art student Valeria Vargas, to the CSUSB Undocumented Student Success Center, which he purchased during a Día de los Muertos celebration and auction last November.

David Yaghoubian (history) commented on the latest sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Iran, Miranda Canseco (RAFFMA) talked about Día De Los Muertos, Brian Levin (criminal justice) was quoted about the rise of church vandalism, and Mike Stull (entrepreneurship) was quoted about the Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards.

CSUSB’s Association of Latino Faculty, Staff and Students will host the annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) event on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art. Registration required.

RAFFMA presents Festival de Calaveras, a virtual art exhibit with calaveras, or skulls, decorated by CSUSB community members. Calaveras are now showcased on the RAFFMA website and will be auctioned in-person Nov. 6. RSVP required to attend auction.

The completed calaveras for RAFFMA’s Festival de Calaveras are now on virtual display on the museum’s website through Oct. 15.

RAFFMA presents Festival de Calaveras
September 8, 2020

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, RAFFMA presents Festival de Calaveras, where participants decorate a calavera in September and show off their designs virtually in October. Contactless calavera pickup will take place at RAFFMA in Lot M on Sept. 15 and 16. Participants will have approximately two weeks to decorate and return the completed calavera to RAFFMA on Sept. 28 and 29.

Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, a holiday in Mexican and pre-Hispanic indigenous cultures to honor the lives of loved ones, will be held at CSUSB on Nov. 2.
