The work of the DEI Faculty Fellows will align with CSUSB’s strategic plan to enhance the university’s DEI commitment, resources and support for faculty across ranks.
Mihaela Popescu (communication studies) discussed the new CSUSB-Annenberg Pipeline Program with the Annenberg School for Communication, Mike Stull (entrepreneurship) introduced the new Entrepreneurial Resource Center, a partnership with the city of San Bernardino, Andrea Giuffren (criminal justice) coauthored a study on the long-term impact of juvenile crime, and Donna Garcia (psychology) coauthored research on claims of bias by “high-status” groups.
A paper co-authored by Donna Garcia (psychology) on the lack of ethnic minorities in ecology and evolutionary biology was cited in an article on methodological naturalism, and testimony before Congress by Tony Coulson (information and decision sciences) was mentioned in an article about the U.S. government hiring more cybersecurity professionals.
Donna Garcia will present “Understanding the Effects of Cultural Representations on Women's Participation in STEM: An Intersectional Approach,” on May 10.
The grant will be used in several areas to facilitate a culture of equity and diversity within the faculty through comprehensive policy changes concerning recruitment, hiring, promotion and tenure in STEM-related programs.
“Building a Shared Vision: Creating an Inclusive Environment” featured presentations on equity gaps on campus, ways to close the gaps as well as roundtable discussions.
