Many of the newly minted CSUSB alumni are the first in their families to earn a college degree. “With this achievement you have broken a barrier and will now forever be a role model for siblings, relatives and future generations,” university President Tomás D. Morales said. Five commencement ceremonies took place May 16-17.

Justus Baker-Postell, the Outstanding Undergraduate Student, and Monica Ybanez, the Outstanding Graduate Student, will be honored at the college’s commencement ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at Toyota Arena in Ontario.

For student Justus Baker-Postell, her time at CSUSB has been defined by dedication and perseverance. Despite changing her major, adding a minor, and managing two on-campus jobs, she earned six scholarships and stayed on track for graduation. As she gets closer to graduation, Baker-Postell reflects on the supportive community that has helped her turn challenges into opportunities for growth.
