Cal State San Bernardino music student Gabriel "Gabe" Orozco will take an important step toward his professional career this weekend when he performs as part of "Music from the Films of Wes Anderson" at the Hollywood Bowl.

The immersive concert event will take place July 10-12 and celebrates filmmaker Wes Anderson's 30-year filmography through live performances by his longtime musical collaborators, film clips and a concert experience that transforms the Hollywood Bowl into Anderson's signature cinematic world.

The opportunity came after the Los Angeles Philharmonic contacted Lesley Leighton, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, to assemble a tenor and bass choir for the performances. Leighton selected Orozco, a tenor and voice major who will be a senior this fall, for the paid professional engagement — his first professional singing contract.

"Gabe is very serious about a singing career, so since I had a space, and I know he will work hard, I felt confident in offering it," said Leighton.

She said Orozco has consistently demonstrated the dedication and professionalism needed for the prestigious performance.

"Gabe has shown incredible work ethic for the past three years both with Stacey Fraser in lessons and for me in Chamber Singers, and his voice has moved forward so much since he has worked so hard," Leighton said. "He is also insanely dependable, and I know he will show up with the score practically memorized for the first rehearsal. He is beyond excited."
