The Mountain Communities Endowed Scholarship at Cal State San Bernardino recently received a $150,000 boost, thanks to a generous gift from Neale Perkins, a longtime friend of the university. The gift increases the endowed scholarship fund to $600,000.

The Mountain Communities Endowed Scholarship has provided financial assistance to mountain residents attending Cal State San Bernardino since it was established in 2003 by the Mountain Communities Scholarship Society, a dedicated group of friends, neighbors and business associates in the greater Lake Arrowhead area led by Neale Perkins and his wife, Patricia.

The scholarship – available to all majors with a preference to nursing or healthcare-related majors – is not restricted to new high school graduates. Financial need is also considered, but not essential. Scholarship recipients are residents of the greater Lake Arrowhead mountain communities, encompassed by the Rim of the World Unified School District.

Charitable contributions to the Mountain Communities Scholarships help create an exceptional academic experience for students from the mountain communities of the Lake Arrowhead area, providing scholarship support to fund student tuition, fees, books, housing and educational incidentals.
