On its 2022 list of the “Best Colleges in America, Ranked by Value,” Money Magazine ranked Cal State San Bernardino No. 54 out of 623 colleges and universities.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the best value colleges in the nation and take pride in the fact that we offer our students, many of whom are first-generation, top-tier courses and programs with dedicated, award-winning faculty and staff,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales.

The list ranks institutions based on quality of education, affordability and graduate earnings. To make the list, a school must have at least 500 undergraduate students; have sufficient, reliable data to be analyzed; not be in financial distress; and have a graduation rate at or above the median rate for its peer institutions, meaning public, private or historically black colleges or universities.

“Your college doesn’t have to be exclusive to be a great investment,” says the Money Magazine website. “To find the schools that combine quality and affordability while admitting at least 20% of applicants, Money analyzed dozens of data points to produce a ranking we think will be useful to applicants who are increasingly looking for more choices.”

Money Magazine listed CSUSB’s offerings, including glassblowing facilities and a crime analysis lab, and CSUSB’s various student support programs, including its Veterans Success Center and Coyote First STEP (Student Transition Enhancement Program), a free fully residential summer program for incoming students aimed at helping them improve their math skills before the semester starts.

Money Magazine also recognized that CSUSB is a designated Hispanic-Serving Institution by the Department of Education with a Hispanic student body of 67 percent. And with a 65 percent graduation rate, Money finds that to be 16 percent higher than expected for institutions with similar student populations.
