TheBestSchools.org has ranked Cal State San Bernardino in the top 50 schools across the nation for having one of the best RN to BSN online programs.

CSUSB was listed at No. 42 and was one of only two California State Universities to make the list, with Cal State San Marcos at No. 45.

“We are honored to have our RN to BSN online program recognized as one of the best,” said Terri Burch, professor and chair of the CSUSB Department of Nursing in the College of Natural Sciences. “We are also excited to launch our new streamlined curriculum to better meet the needs of our RN to BSN students’ busy lives.”

TheBestSchools.org selected the online programs based on quality of education, types of classes provided, faculty strength, nursing school awards, and rankings and reputation, particularly for providing online degree programs.

CSUSB’s RN to BSN program, which is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), is a hybrid program that provides an opportunity to earn the BSN with a combination of online and traditional classroom instruction.

BSN candidates at CSUSB complete roughly 20 percent of the curriculum in person, fulfilling the remaining program requirements through online coursework. Classes present and examine major concepts in pathophysiology and pharmacology, nursing research and evidence-based practice, nursing leadership, and strategies for patient education.

Students also participate in a three-credit nursing leadership practicum, completing two clinical rotations at community sites or hospital agencies. Graduates can seek a public health nurse certificate from the California Board of Registered Nursing.

According to TheBestSchools.org, “registered nurses who complete online RN-to-BSN programs gain career advances and increased earning potential … The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) reports that employers value BSN nurses for their leadership, critical thinking, health promotion, and case management skills, and because they can practice nursing in an array of inpatient and outpatient environments.”
