Cal State San Bernardino’s part-time MBA program in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration has been listed as one of the top programs in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report 2018 rankings of graduate schools.

The CSUSB Brown College MBA program is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which is the most prestigious and recognized accreditation for business programs. Less than five percent of the world’s business schools achieve this accreditation.

“While we know our students are special and hardworking, this ranking is especially pleasing because of the peer recognition we are now receiving, which validates the hard work our faculty and staff put in on a daily basis,” said Lawrence Rose, dean of the Jack Brown College of Business and Public Administration.

“It is a testament to the quality of our faculty, the hard work of our students, and the support of our staff that we continue to be recognized by U.S. News as one of the best part-time MBA programs,” said Craig Seal, associate dean of student success and assessment; director of the MBA program and a professor in department of management.

The Brown College MBA program was designed to prepare students for positions of responsibility and leadership in business administration, emphasizing conceptual knowledge and practical skills. The program also offers a series of mini self-study modules to help prepare students for the MBA program. The modules cover accounting, finance, information management, supply chain management, management and marketing.

The U.S. News & World Report Part-Time MBA ranking is based on five factors: average peer assessment score (50 percent of the overall score); average GMAT score and GRE scores of part-time MBA students entering in the fall of 2016 (15 percent); average undergraduate grade point average (5 percent); average number of years of work experience (15 percent); and the percentage of the fall 2016 total MBA program enrollment that is in the part-time MBA program (15 percent).

The average peer assessment score is calculated from a fall 2016 survey that asked business school deans and MBA program directors at each of the nation’s 360 part-time MBA programs to rate the other part-time programs on a 5-point scale, from marginal (1) to outstanding (5); 45 percent responded. Those unfamiliar with a program were asked to indicate “don’t know.” To be eligible for the part-time ranking, a program had to be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and have at least 20 students enrolled part time in the fall of 2016; 301 programs met those criteria and were ranked.

Last fall, U.S. News & World Report listed CSUSB 14th among all western regional public institutions and 61st among the best regional universities in the west. The rankings focused on academic excellence, with schools ranked up to 16 measures of academic quality. The rankings emphasize outcomes, with graduation and retention rates carrying the most weight in the methodology at 30 percent. The top schools all have high six-year graduation rates and strong freshman retention rates.
