The San Bernardino Municipal Water Department and the CSUSB department of communication studies are sponsoring the first-ever Water Awareness Public Service Contest, aimed at showcasing ways to live a water-saving lifestyle.

Contestants must create a 30- to 90- second public service announcement video that promotes the need for ongoing water conservation efforts, and the importance of water resources.

Each PSA submission must be from a student currently attending CSUSB, with an outline due by Aug. 15. The outline should entail the message being conveyed, topics covered, media type (dialogue, video, music), resources used and expectations for how the video will look. The outline must be in a PDF or Microsoft Word format and emailed to waterawarenesspsa2017@gmail.com.

Final submissions are due by Sept. 15, with the winners to be selected within five business days by the San Bernardino Municipal Water Department. Entries will be judged on summary, content, clarity, creativity and production.

The first-prize winner will receive $500, with the runner up receiving $250, which will be added to their Coyote One accounts through CSUSB Flex-Cash.

The students who participate in this opportunity will be rewarded with more than just money.

“The benefits of the contest are the experience of actually producing the spot with real world deadlines,” said Michael Wichman, CSUSB media production specialist. “The biggest benefit of all is being able to include this in their resume.”
