A message from CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales

Colleagues and Students,

Tragedy has again shaken our nation with the news of Sunday night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas. As the devastating details of loss and sorrow spread around the world, it is with the utmost sadness I must report that a member of our campus community is among the victims.

Jordyn Rivera, a fourth-year student in our Health Care Management program, died during Sunday’s shooting. A La Verne native and Bonita High School graduate, Jordyn was a member of CSUSB’s chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma, the national health education honor society.

I personally got a chance to know her when we spent time together last summer in London during the summer abroad program. As one of her faculty members noted, we will remember and treasure her for her warmth, optimism, energy, and kindness.

This is a devastating loss for the entire CSUSB family. In this time of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with Jordyn’s family, friends and all who knew her. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Let us also mourn everyone who lost their lives in this senseless tragedy and hope for a speedy recovery and healing to the many who were impacted.

Tomás MoralesPresident
