Classes at Cal State San Bernardino were open Thursday, Jan. 11, after reports of gunfire prompted students to shelter in their classrooms for several hours the night before.

The cause of the gunfire was still under investigation, said university spokesman Joe Gutierrez on Thursday morning.

CSUSB Police Chief Nina Jamsen on Wednesday night said she believed that one confirmed shot may have come from the foothills to the north of campus.

San Bernardino police Officer Eileen Hards on Thursday said officers had not yet pinpointed where the gunfire had come from.

Classes are scheduled to resume Thursday after a shooting investigation forced California State University San Bernardino to go on lockdown for more than five hours Wednesday night.

Authorities said no one was injured after a gun was fired from off campus and a bullet struck the Visual Arts Building on the west side of the property. Officers searched multiple buildings but no shooter was found.

Shots were reported on the Cal State San Bernardino campus on Wednesday night, canceling classes, forcing students and staff to shelter in place and prompting a search by law enforcement for potential evidence. No injuries were reported.

As of 10:30 p.m., no arrests had been announced.

It wasn’t immediately known how many shots may have been fired — investigators by late Wednesday had confirmed just one shot was fired onto the campus, said Cal State San Bernardino Police Chief Nina Jamsen.

The Cal State San Bernardino campus was placed on lockdown four hours Wednesday evening following a non-injury shooting.

Gunshots were reported around 6 p.m. near the Visual Arts Building and Parking Structure West, according to the university's Twitter page.

Police cleared campus buildings Wednesday night amid an investigation into a shots fired report at Cal State San Bernardino, a campus social media account stated.
