CSUSB political science majors Selena Lopez and Nadra Mamou have been accepted into the 2017 Sacramento Semester Program, where students will learn how to enhance their school coursework with practical experience in state government.

'This is a great opportunity for two of our department’s outstanding students,” said Brian Janiskee, professor and department chair of the CSUSB Department of Political Science. “Selena and Nadra will do a tremendous job in representing our department and our university in learning the intricacies of state government.”

Launched in 1976 at California State University, Sacramento, the program offers a select group of students from universities across the state have the opportunity to augment their coursework with practical experience in state government by working with members of the legislature, departments in the executive branch, or with political associations and lobbyists during a four and one-half month internship.

The students will learn how to conduct legislative research, monitor bills, correspond with constituents or grassroots membership, prepare press releases and newsletters, and participate in budget work and campaign planning.

Lopez was very happy to learn that she had been accepted into this program. “I am so humbled and honored to have been selected to participate in a program that will surely be memorable,” she said.

Mamou was also pleased about being accepted. “Being accepted into the Sacramento semester program is a great opportunity for me to advance in my career and gain valuable experience. I feel truly honored.”
