Forbes magazine has again listed Cal State San Bernardino among the top universities in the nation in its annual rankings. Now in its 11th year, the Forbes ranking lists the top 660 colleges and universities in the country, measuring the top 20 percent of all U.S. undergraduate institutions. For 2018, Forbes ranked CSUSB 102nd among its top institutions in the West, 186th in its top Public Colleges, 207th in its America’s Best Value Colleges, and 515 in its Top Colleges list. “We are deeply honored to be once again listed among our nation’s best universities,” said CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales. “This recognition is a tribute to the amazing work of our faculty, staff and administrators who are dedicated to creating and delivering an exceptional and challenging learning environment to our students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.” The Forbes Top Colleges ranking focuses on the direct benefits a college or university provides its students. The ranking looks at variables such as alumni salary, graduation rate and student satisfaction. In compiling the listings, Forbes started with schools classified by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Forbes then used two huge data sets compiled by the U.S. Department of Education, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard, created by the Obama administration in 2013 to track information about students who receive federal financial aid. Forbes also used information from PayScale, a privately owned website with a vast amount of self-reported salary data and Niche, another privately owned site that draws from tens of millions of student surveys. The colleges were ranked in five general categories: alumni salary (20 percent), student debt (20 percent), student experience (20 percent), alumni success (15 percent), academic success (12.5 percent) and graduation rate (12.5 percent). The Forbes ranking appears in its America’s Top Colleges webpage. For more information on Cal State San Bernardino, contact the university’s Office of Strategic Communication at (909) 537-5007 and visit Inside CSUSB
