The John M. Pfau Library at Cal State San Bernardino will host the second annual Comic Book Expo on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The program will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in PL-5005, located on the fifth floor of the library. The Pfau Library has more than 3,200 comic books in its Special Collections, which include DC and Marvel superheroes, “The Walking Dead” series, “Archie,” and much more. Popular and rare comic books will be on display throughout the library. “We’re delighted to host the second annual Comic Book Expo,” said Cesar Caballero, dean of the Pfau Library. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for comic book enthusiasts of all ages, from throughout the Inland region and beyond, to meet, network and collaborate on future projects, both within and across genres.  The program also provides an opportunity for members of the broader community to discover the wealth of comic book material archived in our Special Collections – an experience we hope will inspire creativity and imagination.” A costume contest will be held as part of the activities, so attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite comic book character or hero to compete for sought-after prizes, such as Starbucks gift cards. Former Pfau Library information archives specialist James Knight III, a CSUSB alumnus who participated in last year’s expo, will facilitate panel discussions and presentations on a range of subjects, such as comic stories in the media, human themes in movies, cultural characters, science-based mysteries, and classic comedies. Panelists and special guests include Melina Chavarria, a comic book writer and co-creator of “The Magic Glasses” series, and Javier Hernandez, a cartoonist, art educator and co-founder of the “Latino Comics Expo,” who will conduct an interactive writing workshop and sign autographs. The event is free and open to the public. Visit the campus’ main Information Center, located at the campus’ University Parkway entrance , for a complimentary parking permit. For questions or more information, contact Pat.Ric’e-Daniels@csusb.edu or (909) 537-4307.
