Written by Olabode Lawal/CSUSB Office of Strategic CommunicationPhotos by Robert A. Whitehead/CSUSBWinter came to Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 12 with the annual Snow Day, held for the 12th time at the Lower Commons. The event welcomed students, faculty and staff to all break free from the stress of school and work to have some fun. The event kicked off by 1 p.m., with a line of attendees waiting to sign in to get a prize of a Nothing Bundt Cake, which were given to the first 80 students. After the sign-in, loads of students dispersed to the various tents available to participate in activities and listen to music. There were three lines of massive snow: one for the snow glide; another for snow fighting, which also had a well-crafted snowman where students and staff went to take pictures; and the third for snowboarding. There were also tents housing school faculties and other product outlets such as ASI, the Career Center, school fraternity and sorority houses, Student Health Center, Women’s Resource Center, PepsiCo, Rockstar energy drink, Bubly sparkling water, among many more. Alongside the event also came a “raffle passport,” which required Snow Day visitors to visit tents, participate in their activity(ies), get their signature or stamp on the raffle passport, then use the passport to win an overall prize (separate from the one each tent gives for visiting them). This not only got students to be present, but also got them to go to as many tents as they want to win a prize. An English student, Kamia, said, “I really, really like it … for my first time being a freshman, it is quite fun. There are lots of activities like free food, free gift items and fun!” And she rated the event a 10 out of 10, saying she wouldn’t swap this day for another. “I love the Snow Day,” said an ASI staff member. “There is nothing about today that I would change. I love the snow, the interaction with other clubs, the food – I mean it’s free food! – the free, live DJ with music, and free cake. I would gladly rate this event a 10 out of 10.”
