The Grand Canyon is one of the most visited national parks in the United States, but most people only get to see it from the rim of the canyon.  Enjoy four days in the canyon backpacking under the snow covered rim.  Snow generally doesn't’t fall into the canyon itself but makes for gorgeous views from inside.  Possible snowy conditions together with backpacking make this a great and unforgettable experience!

Itinerary
Day 1:
We will meet at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at 8am to pack up the van and make sure we all have the necessary and proper gear and attire for a successful trip. Our drive is roughly 442 miles (7-8 hours) with stops for lunch, dinner and whenever we have to fill up our van with gas. Upon arrival in Grand Canyon National Park we will set up camp at Mather Campground and the rest of the night is left for relaxing around the fire and getting ready for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2:
After an early morning quick breakfast, our adventure will start on the South Kaibab Trailhead where we will hike down into the canyon towards Bright Angel Campground (~8.5 miles / ~11.2 km round trip). The elevation loss/gain is roughly 3000 feet/900 meters, which means the trail is steep. Be prepared for some hiking. When we get back to camp we will cook a well-deserved dinner and then get some much needed sleep.

Day 3:
We will be making breakfast and packing for a nice day hike. Our plan for the day will go as follows: Start at the Bright Angel Campground

Day 4:
This morning we will head to Indian Garden Campground.

Day 5: Our last day. morning we will wake up eat some hearty breakfast and head out of the canyon to the the Bright Angel Trail. After a hot shower at Mather campground we will hop in the car and head back home to CSUSB stopping for dinner on the way.
