Canyons & Culture: A Native Heritage Day in Palm Springs
This trip combines a guided hike, scenic exploration, and a cultural museum visit in recognition of Native American Heritage Month. The day begins at Indian Canyons with a 10:00 a.m. ranger-led hike through Palm Canyon, offering insight into the land and the traditions of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. After a packed lunch, the group continues with the Victor Trail Loop, a moderate hike with elevated views of the canyon.
In the afternoon, the trip concludes at the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, where exhibits highlight the history, culture, and ongoing contributions of the Agua Caliente people—making this a meaningful way to learn about and honor Native American heritage.
10:00–11:30 a.m.
Do the ranger-led Palm Canyon hike from the Trading Post. Indian Canyons lists this as a Friday–Sunday hike, 10:00 a.m., about 1.5 hours.
11:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Eat your packed lunch at the Trading Post/picnic area or nearby before heading back out on trail.
12:15–2:15 p.m.
Do the Victor Trail Loop. Indian Canyons describes it as a loop that starts by hiking about 1 mile south on Palm Canyon Trail, then climbs onto a ridge overlooking the canyon and returns to the Trading Post. Their trail info shows it as about 2.7–3 miles and roughly 2 hours.
2:15–2:35 p.m.
Drive from Indian Canyons to the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum in downtown Palm Springs.
2:45–4:30 p.m.
Visit the museum. The museum is at 140 N. Indian Canyon Dr. and is generally open Tuesday–Sunday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Tickets are timed, so a 3:00 p.m. entry is a safe target after the second hike.
