Coyotes Cares Day: Tree Planting Event
This year’s Coyotes Cares Day brought together students, faculty, and staff from across California State University, San Bernardino for a meaningful day of service. As a proud Tree Campus Higher Education institution, CSUSB continues to demonstrate its commitment to responsible tree management and campus engagement — and this year’s tree planting initiative was a powerful reflection of that dedication.
Volunteers planted 15 trees across campus, enhancing the university’s landscape while contributing to long-term environmental health. Expanding tree canopy coverage plays an essential role in improving air quality, reducing urban heat, providing shade, and strengthening the overall campus ecosystem. These efforts directly support CSUSB’s sustainability goals and reinforce the university’s ongoing commitment to maintaining its Tree Campus status.

Coyotes Cares Day is centered on community engagement and collective action, and the tree planting initiative embodied that spirit. By working side by side in hands-on service, members of the university community invested in a project that will benefit both current students and future generations of Coyotes. Each tree planted represents not only environmental progress but also a shared commitment to care for the spaces where we learn, work, and gather.
Beyond its environmental impact, the event fostered connection and collaboration among participants. Continued investment in green infrastructure helps create welcoming outdoor spaces that support student well-being, encourage campus pride, and promote a culture of sustainability.

The Office of Sustainability extends sincere thanks to the West Coast Arborist Team and their area manager, Mr. Alonso Garcia, for their expert guidance throughout the planting process. We also express our deep appreciation to the CSUSB grounds team — Daniel Salazar, Antonio Valdovinos, Bryan Fulmer, Mark Casillas, Julio Cruz, and Jose Urena, Raul Lerma— for their hard work, support, and ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing our campus landscape.

Together, the CSUSB community continues to grow a greener, more resilient campus — one tree at a time.
